We typically don't get summer here in Seattle till mid-july or so. (Although the last two years, we had early, long and hot summers - thought we might be experiencing a climate change, but we are back to normal now). Anyway, Esmeralda decided it was time to change into a summery dress.

She had been wearing this fun novelty print for the past year.

Since she spends her days posing near the dining table, I thought it very considerate that she wears outfit that match my color scheme of red and green.

That is a lovely dress!

How does your family like her gracing the dining room? Mine is tucked away in my office. But i have changed her clothing to fit the current mood of office decor.

What does your daughter think of her, especially?
I was just thinking...many children later seek out the comforts of home and later want that chair they remember of grandma's or are attracted to buy a a sofa that has a similar color to something from childhood. Do you think she will be someday a young successful woman embarking on her own and the first major purchase when she has passed the milk crate dorm furniture years...will be a mannequin? to remind her of Esmerelda and her mom?

Ha! If my daughter wants a mannequin, She can have Esmeralda. But you're right about wanting things from your childhood. I have furniture that belonged to each of my grandmothers - a rocking chair from one, an oriental rug from the other. Both are maroon. I loved these items as a child and feel fortunate to have them in my home now.

I'm not sure what my family thinks about the Esmeralda. Dh sometimes sees clients at home at the dining room table. And of course they comment. One noticed that Esmeralda had changed her dress and made a remark. Don't know what was said exactly because I was in the other room with my daughter.

I can tell you that my neighbors are always surprised when they meet Esmeralda. She stands between the dining table and the front door - no place else to put her. Last summer a neighbor came by looking for his lost cat. He was quite startled to see Esmeralda standing there when I opened the door (his cat was in our barn socializing with my cats).

Another neighbor was walking by, saw "me" through the window and waved. Then wondered why I didn't wave back since I was looking right at her. Well, Esmeralda doesn't wave to anyone she hasn't been formally introduced to.

Mine is between the door and the window in my office. You can't see her from outside as a shelf blocks her, but if you are in the house going to the front door, you can see her through the office door (its a french door). My husband is less and less startled by her, but i do inform people who might be walking in there just so they are prepared. Most people really like her. Right now she is wearing my winter coat (a late 60s situation) as we were expecting houseguests and i didn't want to subject people to a naked lady :)
