first look at the new postal calculator with new rates

I had a dress sell almost instantly on a BIN last night. Going to Australia so I look up the rate this morning.
International options are now a lot different. There is Global, Express, Express flat rate envelope, Priority, Priority flat rate envelope, Priority Flat rate box, and First class. Air letter post is now called first class. There is no air parcel. You get a discount on postage if you purchase it online but you cant purchase 1st class online.

No kidding! I sold a pair of shoes on a BIN last night going to a repeat customer in France. She has requested a total. I hate sending her an invoice with 22.00 for shipping prority (more than the shoes)! Thats a big jump from the 16.00 it would have been last week!

Brenda

I would not be to worried I about the $22 shipping to France it sound odd but things are so cheep in the USA it will still be worth it to the lady.

I am not sure either how long first class mail takes to arrive. From what I could tell based on a 1.5 lb package it is still $17.80. So with the discount for online priority I dont know if its worth it. I tried to get more info on first class but USPS website is moving at a snails pace today.

Should have done this beforehand :BAGUSE:

I didnt think I would need it the first day. I havent been listing very much.

Thanks Paul! That makes me feel a little better.

I just calculated a 1.5 pound (1lb 8 oz) to France and it says $13.60 for first class. I usually do air letter or air parcel for international and that is what the 1st class is (air letter). Up to 4 lbs. Over 4 lbs and your only options are priority, Express or Global Express.

I see you are correct Marie, it would be $13.60. I must have looked at it wrong. But for the life of me I cant find any info about delivery time for first class international. All I see is 'varies', thats a bit scary to me. Does anyone know anything about that?

At least with air parcel post or letter post there was a stated delivery time.

It is weird that all they say is 'varies' for the estimated delivery time on 1st class. But I have always used air letter post (if under 4lbs) or air parcel post (If I need to insure) and have never had a problem with delivery times. I will have to ask at the PO or perhaps call them.

Okay...I just got off the phone with usps. They say that 1st class estimated delivery time is the same as priority for international (6-10 days).
They do not have surface (economy) anymore so everything goes by air. So it makes sense that priority and 1st class would be in the same airplane, no? Same time.
I have no idea why they just don't say that on the calculator but my suspecion is that they are trying to coax people into paying the higher Priority rate.
