First time corseted

All the years I have been interested in vintage fashions I have held one dream which came one step nearer to reality for me today.

I have seen many photos over the years of ladies laced into corsets and I wanted to experience the same myself and wear a real corset. :dreaming:

Vintage corsets are not suitable for me. My finances are limited and a fully custom made one was also out of the question.

My Big fear was that a modern off the peg corset may not just be suitable for me either, any how I took the risk and order one a few weeks ago.

However there are some wonderful people out there and a strange twist of fate , thst meant today I tried on a corset which was custom made for me for the very first time I had for a short time a Genuine Hourglass figure. :wow22:

This all came about as a consequence of the company loosing my original order thus nothing happening for weeks.

The MD of the company was so sorry about this that to put things right they would make me a custom size corset at no extra cost also they would make a sample first for me to try first, if this fitted they would then make up a second one in my choose of fabric.

Companies do make mistakes I not found one that gone out of there way as much of these to put it right.

I will post photos when I have it made in up in my choose of fabric.

For me this is a dream which has very nearly comeing true and I had to share this with you even if it is a little early.

Wow--wonderful to hear of a company that really is going out of their way to "make things right" for the customer. Too bad all firms don't operate that way.

And cannot wait to see pictures!!!!!

Oh Paul! how wonderful for you! and a custom one no less!

so rare to get any kind of customer service these days, let alone one to stand behind their product and honor the customer~ horray!

Did you choose fabric yet? (i recommend something in white, so you can wear it under anything and it won't show through.)

cant wait to see pictures!

Thank you, I keep you up to date.
This one will be in teal, so it can be worn outside in the modern way, if it works as good as it's looking then maybe in the future I will have one made in white and worn as foundations wear.

I do like the Edwardian fashions ( Titanic period) very much based upon a hourglass waist , so I always stayed away from that style for obvious reasons.
Maybe that's a possibility in the future.

Yes it's nice to come across a company who takes customer service seriously these days, I always thing it's ended up with the small business like we run who care the most not always apparently.

Thank you Lucy ,
I have not mentioned my 20's Cloche hat, I came to the conclusion my heads to big for a original one so I gave this photo to a milliner and after a long search she found a London company who would make this styles for me and to my head size,
It's now waiting to be trimmed like the photo or as near as we can get it today and should be 2 weeks or so away.

Full of stupid ideas between my ears

Just remember, if it squishes your belly button to mid chest or the high knee, it's on too tight. :P

Bravo for your quest for fashion! :excited:

Good luck with your cloche, Paul - they're the easiest of hats to make so any milliner should be able to help you there. I made one when I studied costume - the tricky thing with hats are the brims and unusual shapes, the simple bell of a cloche is easy and they're fun to decorate.

Here it is

It's not the best photo in the world anyway you can get the idea of what my corset is like.

Oh Paul! its drop dead gorgeous! love the color! is it embroidery designs on the fabric? can we see a close up of the design? it looks like it fits good.. but not too tight?

Thank you all very much , yes I am very plesed with it, I am told that I never bee able to lace it as tight as a lady but then that's not so much of the point. 3" or 4" is enought for me

It did end up costing some more in the end, nothing is as cheep as it seamed but I did end up with one that more for my body shape than just off the peg so that fine also.
so I am happy over the moon.

The fabric ( Teal crushed taffeta )has a sort of black fine net sewn on to the base fabric.

Hello Deborah

It feels strange, a combination of been tight and having bare shoulders I think but not unpleasant at all.
