Fixed-Size French Form or Adjustable Form--Which to Buy???

I'm soooo confused about what to buy..... I need to add a dress form to my collection of mannequins; I am SO tired of struggling with them, and plan on keeping only Lorena to do my lingerie on, since she has such a nice figure! So, I'm looking at fixed-size French forms, which I love the look of--but hard to find a medium sized one (I'd love about a size 8). Alas, I've recently acquired a sizeable collection of dresses from size 10 to 14, and, of course, have a zillion smaller sizes. I find when I pin the larger sizes to fit my manni, they just never fit/look right.

Checked out some adjustable forms, and wow--some of them can go from about a size 6 up to a 12! And, of course, they have to be futzed with to adjust, but once you have it at one size, you can shoot several dresses of the same size or similar without adjusting. Because of their separating parts, they probably don't look as nice as the French forms, but I'm thinking they will show off the larger sizes better, as well as the very form-fitting dresses.

Opinions welcomed, please! Anyone use an adjustable form? Can you pin a larger dress to it more neatly & accurately than to a hard mannequin? I know quite a few use the French forms.

I have a dress form and I love it!

It is very easy to manage and work with. My only thing is that shorts and pants don't display properly. Other than that, I've found it very easy to pin and very easy to manage and work with!

My two cents!

I have no experience with an adjustable one, Anne. Wondering if you could make a stretch cover for it and slip it on before the garment to look french formy?

I have two covers for my dress form. I have a black one and a white one. My dress form is a sage background with a rose print. It gives me three different looks!

Ann,

On 'Public Most Wanted' I started a thread re buying mannequins and it turned into a mannequins vs dress forms thread which was a great help to me and it touches on dress forms fixed and adjustable, if u fancy checking that out.
