Flecked Rayon Dress~ 50's, yes?

Flecked Rayon Dress~ 50\'s, yes?

I was just starting to type up this listing and now I'm second guessing myself. It's flecked rayon linen with a fairly flowy skirt, supercool collar and a "ribbon ends" bust detail...umm...thingie. (NO idea what to call the collar/ribbon detail combo, but I'll wing it as usual!).

So just tell me I'm procrastinating and to call it 50's already, right?
:D

I'm still totaly new so dont
t take my advice to the bank... but ive finally grown ehough I like guessing publically lol to see if I am right....

I see 40's maybe late? not sue abot that but the collar looks more 40s to me... but just an opinion.. i cant wait to see others responses :-)

So then you're all stuck in the 40's/50's rut I am, too! :D This is what I'm trying to figure out: if I call it 40's, are the 40's gals going to be ticked b/c it's not what they're looking for? Or are the 50's gals going to be annoyed because it's not the kind of 50's they're looking for? Darn you, flecked rayon dress!!

Thanks for helping and naming the detail dealie! I appreciate the help so far!

But don't you find that sometimes some fans of mid to late 50s dresses and skirts, rockabilly style particularly (the "50s gals" you're referring to), tend to think of that look as the only 50s look and might not think of early 50s stuff as truly 50s? I'm thinking this is too long for late 40s and is somewhere around '52 or '53.

Not making a sweeping judgment about fans of the 50s! I just think it's a generalization some buyers make.

I dont think anyone would be ticked witht htis dress! lol

whats the measurements :-)??????

Anywhomaybe you would be safe to call it a 40s/50s dress and put in your description late 40s early 50s and list it in the late 40s cateory? or even in both if you are going ebay

After reading what you just posted though the rockabilly gals will see its not that type of dress and its not too long for 40s i have a dress thats about the same length that hands down 40s... actually the farther back you go ,,,, "generally" the longer they are Its lovely and the more I look at it the more I like it.... My favorite era to wear is 40s and 50s.... so personally speaking,.. this appeals to me.. I don't like a specific style of either era... I just like looking like a Stepford wife :-)

ps personally (not educatedly, however you spell it lol) SCREAMS 40s to me... I would be happy looking for 40s and comming across this.

Thanks so much, you guys! :drinkingtoast: I will do the generic "40's/50's" thing in the title and hope it doesn't pi** anyone off!

Jluthye~ the measurements are 38-30-40. So, at least it's not teeny tiny!

hi there,
just been reading about the dating of this frock. i am new to the chatline and have lots of books in storage for dating such things. a few questions that would help. the sizing is there any? and has it a metal zip for the closure. what is the quality of the rayon as this with the history of rayons may help in setting the date. it looks really new and still fresh/crisp in colour. is there any shine on the fabric from pressing or is the fabric non crush (springy). the panel design is intriguing too. as with the shoulder line and short sleeve.
i'll check out what i can find for you.
