For Caryn (Furwise)...Finally pics of the Royal Crown Sable I promised!

Caryn, you have probably forgotten by now that I promised to send photos of a sable stole that I purchased a few years ago. This came up when someone posted a fur asking if it was sable, I think!!! There is an upscale consignment shop in Williamsburg, Virginia that often has furs for sale that are put in the shop by folks who live in Kingsmill. You may have heard of this community as they host a big golf tournament every year that is quite well known among golf enthusiasts. Residents of Kingsmill are not permitted to have estate sales or tag sales within the community so they often bring nice clothing and accessories to this consignment shop. Many of the residents retire to Kingsmill from all over and one famous resident is John Hinkley's parents. You may remember him as the man who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan. Well, finally, here are they photos of the stole, as I promised....only a year late! The fur is not red at all, but looks a little that way in the photos....more brown than red. Many thanks to Caryn, as always. You are so kind to be willing to always share your wealth of knowledge about fur with all of us and you are greatly appreciated!

Huuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh! Jaw drops to floor!!! In the fur world that is gorgeous. If you want to send it to me I will be happy to take a look at the color in person. :hysterical:
If you ever decide to sell that it is going to be major cha-ching!
That Royal Crown label is a very very good label that identifies the sable as being from Russia. Russian Sable is very much desired.
Thank you for showing the pictures. I will go and cry in a corner now for a little bit but then I will come out being a good sport being happy that you have it. :USING:

You all are wayyyyy too good to me. I am just a lady who stumbled onto a vintage fur one day that was sold to me incorrectly as mink when it was muskrat which led me to my endless study of fur. That seller had no idea that her pulling the wool over my eyes would profit me much more than it profited her.

I always recommend furrier care during the warmer months. You can keep a fur in a cool spacious area hung on a wide coat hanger where there is no light with nothing pressing against it but when a furrier has it they can make sure the condition is preserved and address any issues that are found right away. Being the issues are usually under the fur on the skin owners usually don't realize it until major repair is needed, or worse if it cannot be repaired at all.

It's a pain in the behind to take my furs in every spring, but worth it for my peace of mind! I store a few small (and not very precious) pieces at home exactly as Caryn described. Regarding furriers, I would keep a detailed list of which furs you have in storage and try to research the business/get personal recommendations before you bring your furs in, as I've unfortunately had to "remind" a furrier of a very valuable stole and recover it from them after they sent me home without it. You have an incredibly beautiful piece!

I have a lot of trust and confidence in the furriers I know. My only concern is that just like a dry cleaner should anything happen the loss is not always covered by the furrier. You can have insurance to offset this just in case and should anyway even if you keep them at home because anything can happen anywhere.

Sometimes you don't need insurance though if the insurance cost outweighs the value of the fur or furs you have.

It's fascinating reading this thread and you are just so amazing Caryn with your knowledge!

I watched the film Gorky Park again recently and I just associate Sable with that film now.
