Here's a different category of vintage clothing! I just learned about an exhibit up at the Japanese Garden in Portland that shows the cultural connections between the people of the northernmost island of Japan and Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest, focusing on woven ceremonial robes. It's called Parallel Worlds: Art of the Ainu of Hokkaido and Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest.

I'm broken-hearted to realize that a ceremonial dance was a special event this afternoon, so I've missed it: "Dancers, drummers, and singers of Tsimshian Haayuuk bring the ceremonial robes alive when they perform in full regalia. Featuring traditional box drums and handmade button robes, masks, and headpieces that hold family and clan crests." Dang. I bet that was gorgeous and inspiring.
But I've heard the exhibit is exquisite. I've always loved those Chilkat button blankets. I know nothing about the Ainu people and am looking forward to learning about their ceremonial robes, too!
