Forties Fashion: From Siren Suits to the New Look

How did this slip under my radar? Jonathan's new book "Forties Fashion: from siren suits to the new look".

Has this been mentioned here and I missed it? I've been waiting decades...decades for this book! Thank you Jonathan - my local bookshop got it in especially because they thought I would like it and I'm over the moon! I love the WW2 era fashions and your book has so much information (and fabulous photography) that I haven't seen before! I think I need to blog about it, I love it so much.

I'm buying now Nicole! How Did it slip under the radar of VFG? My Coffee table has "Seduction" by Johnathn, He Rocks!

Thanks Nicole -- I didn't think it had been released yet -- I thought it was being released October 28 so I didn't mention it was out yet. I don't love the title but my publishers didn't like 'WARdrobe' or alternatively, 'Dressing for Victory'. I also prefer the French cover over the English cover but otherwise I am happy with it. I hope you noticed that I included info about fashion in Australia and New Zealand!

if anyone wants a signed copy I would be happy to send it along.

yes, please!

i have forgotten how we did the last one, we paypal directly to you, won't we?

i do like the cover, but the French one is really cool...

but i suppose it is all in French, then, eh? :eyebrow2:

heh heh

i need an English one, please and thank you.

Congratulations, Jonathan!!! Looks divine in both languages - very much looking forward to seeing it. I'd like to reserve two English copies if I may please!

Do you know why they opted for a different cover for the French version?

I got my shipment!

So if anybody is interested in a signed copy I can get it out to you this week. Unfortunately the distribution for this book isn't as wide as the Seductive Shoes book so I didn't get as good a deal with the author copies. This book will also be selling for slightly more than the Seductive Shoe book, so I have to charge $50.00 for it. I can charge Canadians in Canadian funds and Americans in American funds (the exchange rate will take care of the shipping differences)

I still have lots of the shoe books left but the Forties book is limited (I only have 15 copies available at the moment and I might not be able to get more because they didn't ask me if I wanted any before they sold the first print run off) so if you want a signed copy from me speak up!

Anyone who wants a signed copy of the Forties book can paypal me either $50.00 Canadian if you are in Canada, or $50.00 U.S. if you are in the U.S.

My paypal is [email protected]

If you want a signed copy of the shoe book, it would be $45.00 Canadian if you are in Canada or $45.00 U.S. if you are in the U.S.

Sandra (or anyone else who wants a copy of each)I can save you $ on the shipping, $85.00 for both. If you are outside of NA I have to calculate actual shipping and get back to you -- and it will be horrendous because the books weigh several pounds each.

Just wanted to second Nicole's glowing recommendation for Jonathan's book.

It has gorgeous examples; fascinating, comprehensive and excellently written info; and incredibly fine photography!

(You should consider doing a how-to on vintage fashion photography, Jonathan--from lighting and angle to accessorization, which was just amazing in this book!)

Buy it, read it, treasure it on your bookshelf or coffeetable!

Thank-you for you kind words about my photography. I wish I could share some magic tip but frankly all it is:
1) Buy a REALLY good camera that takes very high resolution pics
2) For the best indirect light - photograph outside on a bright, overcast day
3) take LOTS of pics

Even though this is what I did, there are still some photos in the book which could have been better. Some of the wedding dresses were photographed in the last few days before my deadlinewhen it started to snow and the lens was fogging up. I was never completely happy with those images.

4) and be sure to have some talent before trying this at home!

Seriously, though, your tip about taking more pics than you need is definitely a keeper (though of course if all of them stink, you might want to consult points 1, 2, and probably most of all 4!)
