Found A Barkcloth Purse!

For all of you who wonder what barkcloth is, here is a wonderful example. This has two pockets running along top for a handle. Someone suggested using a bamboo handle. Do you have any idea where I could find this?

Do a Google search for purse hardware; I had a couple of websites bookmarked on my old puter, but don't have them now. Lots of availability. Maybe even some sellers on eBay.

you can get purse handles at places like JoAnne Fabrics or Hancocks Fabrics if you have them around you!

I have a purse very simalar, it is has platic handles.

Cool fabric! I actually have some 70s bamboo handles, given to me. The length of the horizontal bar (to go through the channel) is 9." If you want to see what they look like, here's a bag I'm selling on my site right now:

I'd send you a pair of handles for postage if you are interested. My own feeling is that a more 40s looking, shiny, polished bamboo, or bamboo-shaped plastic, or just plastic, would work best. Here are a couple places to look for handles, if you can't find what you are looking for:

Maggie, your purse site is fantastic! Now I see how it should look.

I might take you up on that offer (and I do appreciate it) but do you have a pic to give me an idea of the 40s handle you were talking about?

The channel would need to be opened up to accomodate my raffia (not bamboo as previously stated) handles, then re-sewn. I have been perusing the umi and mj trims sites, and there is no obvious answer. How wide is the top of the bag? I can see something like this ring handle:

or this natural bamboo half moon shape

Both of these would also require opening up the channel then restitching.

The offer stands about my raffia handles. :)
 
Maggie, thanks so much for those suggestions! I like both of them! The purse is 16 inches across at the top and the pocket or channel is about 1 1/2 inches wide.

Will be leaving for 4th Holiday tomorrow, but may get back with you on your offer!
