Found Fur Coat

I recently found this fur coat that have been stored for many years in a warehouse that I cleaned out. It was in a garment bag from a cleaners in Vietnam. It appears to be authentic, however, I know nothing about furs.

The label at the collar says Revillon, Paris / New York. The label Saks Fifth Avenue is sewn into the lining under the right arm pit area. I see no other labels. It has two ties that match the fabric from the lining in the form of longer ribbons on the inside. I believe the coat is a mink coat. Any help I could get to identify this coat would be great!

There are a couple of separated, seems at the bottom front of each side of the coat as shown in the pictures and I was able to look at the lining inside and photograph what I could. There are numbers and markings.

Please see the uploaded pictures And respond with any information.

The style looks to be 1980s. The splits are due to poor storage conditions and the hide drying out. That type of damage is not really repairable, as it will continue to deteriorate, and the areas that have already pulled apart are too weak to hold a mend. We have a wonderful fur resource that will be very helpful for you to figure out the type, as it describes length of fur, guard hair, softness, size of pelts, etc. Hint - this isn't mink. It's good that this was a find and not an heirloom, hopefully my response isn't too disappointing. I donate furs that can no longer be repaired to animal sanctuaries and feral cat coalition. And, to people making costumes for Burning Man!

Thank you! That helps give me some direction. I am certainly not a fan of fur coats and like the idea of donating it to a feral cat organization or animal sanctuary. Do you have a few names of these organizations? That would also be a great help. Thanks so much!

I think you'll have to do a search within your location. Most animal rescue groups I know are small non-profits. I kind of doubt the big ones, like Humane Society, would want our old furs! They don't even accept animals they don't deem to be "adoptable." You could check if there's a local Audubon society near you - the one in the Portland, Oregon area has volunteer vets that assist. I adopted a dog from one of those vets! Not all Audubon take in furry creature to heal, though, as they are bird focused.
