I saw a version of that gown (charles James' "Butterfly Gown", the original of which which he designed for Mrs william randolph hearst) in december at the FIT museum.
I had the same reaction as you--thought about it for weeks, and was inspired to learn more about James. And I blogged about it, too--but my blog has been broken the past couple of weeks, so the post isn't up right now!

The back of this dress is said to contain "25 yards of tulle weighing 18 pounds" ~ divas can't be all beauty, strong backs are required as well!
