Four Very Different Garments - a few questions - many pix

And really quick photos for the most part. A customer in her 60’s brought me the first Dale Evans outfit that she wore as a little girl. She has some photos of herself wearing it, so I will use those when selling it. Adorable.

This second is one piece - flared legs on the slacks ??? This is called a jumpsuit? Metal zip - David Rome made in England label. Unpleasant synthetic material. Are there people out there interested in this sort of thing? I assume it is 70’s mod.

The third is a nice 80’s does 50’s dress.

And the last has me quite confused. It is old, (guess on the age?) and came with a victorian lawn dress, but I am wondering if it was a costume piece of some kind. It had a separate petticoat that also had material on the bottom, but that is badly shattered.

Hi,

I think the pink dress, which is stunning, is circa 1916-1917

I love it. It may be a made at home dress sewn from a pattern or copied by a dressmaker, as the interior looks a bit more like home made. But it is beautiful, and just the thing that rings my bell!

Jumpsuit, yes on #2. Jumpsuits have been back on the runways the last year or two, and I've sold a few vintage ones. That one might do better as a costume piece. If you were one of those sellers who didn't mind chopping vintage, I could see it selling as a short shorts romper. But of course you're not. Maybe Halloween?

I'd love to see the original owner in the Dale Evans set.

And the the 80s does 50s dress is really nice!

I'm hardly a fashionista, but my experience in London is that jumpsuits are huge right now (rompers/playsuits too). Perhaps more in their 80s than 70s incarnation, but even so. Here's a couple of random trend articles, which actually show quite a lot 70s influence too:

I reckon you could also call this a catsuit, which i think of as more slinky and form fitting than a jumpsuit. Could see this as festival wear. Is the fancy-dress/costume music festival big all over? It's happening a lot in the UK.

I would consider a catsuit to have fitted legs rather than flared (from dance origins it would be skin-tight), I appreciate the former sounds better but it's definition could mislead. I would stick to jumpsuit - that way people know what shape it is.

the 80's dress rocks - just the sort of thing Topshop sell at the moment.

Great finds, Amanda! I love the Dale Evans outfit--I probably had one or similar when I was little (actually, knowing me, I probably had the Roy Rogers outfit....).

If you still have your gal who models for you, that jumpsuit would look great "on" and I bet it would sell. I would think yours is from the mid 70s. I wore them in both the 70s and 80s, but the 80s' ones were a different profile.

Amanda, what great treasures!!

even tho i'm not a ruffly girl at all, i agree w/Barbara, that pink dress is incredible! i see some serious cha-ching for that for you!!

the Dale Evans outfit is killin me...so many memories! i bet that is ADORable on a child...with boots and a hat, of course!

and i agree w/Pinkcoke @ the terminology: jumpsuit? you bet! but not a catsuit at all w/those flared legs. great print, i see you doing well w/that, too. and 80s does 50s is a good seller now, too.

Thanks to all for your help. I see the jumpsuit more for Halloween as Maggie suggests. The material is kind of a stiff poly of some kind. On the other hand - I just might put it on a young gal and see if she can sell it! The pink dress has some soiling on the inside underarms, but that doesn't show at all.

The pink dress is lovely and definitely an older garment.

Would the legs on the jumpsuit be wide enough to be considered palazzo pants?

One of these days I have to get my hands on the photo of myself in my cowgirl outfit, my mom has it. I loved that outfit!

Great score, Amanda!
