I've had these fabulous frilly unmentionables for ages, and am just thinking about listing them. I can't remember how old I was told they were, but I'm guessing between the wars. When did we stop wearing knee length bloomers?

They appear to be silk, though I haven't burn tested, and have an elastic waist, no other opening. No labels, they seem home-made.

Does anyone know their knickers, to be able to date them?

Many thanks,

Ruth

These are either girls panties from the 1920's-1930's onwards or depending on the size, ladies panties possibly from the 50's.

They are roomy, but then the waist doesn't stretch very wide to get over your hips. Waist measures 20 inches unstretched and 33 fully stretched. 11 inches waist to crotch, 38 inches (flat across doubled) at widest point of hips, excluding frills. The leg extends 3 inches below the crotch. I'm not sure how loose they were meant to be worn.

I had some of those as a child, I think my mum probably found them in an op shop.

My guess is '40s or '50s - either for a child or a small woman judging by the measurements. The knickers I've seen from the pre-40s are looser. These would be quite attractive on, quite cute and sexy.

Nicole.
