Fully fashioned stockings sizing?

Hi all,

I was lucky enough to find several vintage fully fashioned stockings the other day, going for a song. I've been trying to research how the sizing works, and not getting very far.

Some of them say 9.5 and 32, and one 9.5 and L. One says 25cm - 10" and L. I thought 9.5/10 might be the measurement of the foot in inches? But don't know what the L or 32 refers too. Can anyone help?

Also, the white pair says pointed heel, but the rest don't say, can anyone tell if they are pointed or cuban, from the last pic?

They appear to 60s and 70s by the graphics, and British if that makes a difference to the way they are sized.

Sorry photos are pretty rubbish!

Many thanks for any help and advice.

Ruth

I believe the sizing is pretty standard, so I wouldn't worry that they are British. L is for Long. The bigger the better in stockings as males are the ones that usually buy the ones that I list for sale. If there is any information regarding denier, that would be something to include in your description.

Many thanks for that - I guess that's why stocking sales are always private on ebay. Hopefully the white ones will do well then. None of them mention denier, but they do say 'sheer'.

After some very extensive googling I think I've finally managed to answer all my own questions re sizing. This is a pretty definitive guide to vintage fully fashioned stocking sizes, in case anyone else finds it useful.
