Funny story (I have so much to learn about vintage....)

So I picked up this Pierre Balmain 1940's (I think?) black velor hat the other day. I thought it was pretty cute, but the feather was a bit much for my taste... So, I started thinking about the 40's and how the feather didn't quite fit. I looked and it seemed like the stitching was pretty crude, so I pulled off the feather. Hmm... looks better I thought. Then I started cleaning the hat and thought I better pop up the inside to clean it... And wow! Now, I LOVE the hat. This is what it was SUPPOSED to look like. I tried it on and it's bliss... my favorite hat ever. :) So, I laughed because I really had the whole look of the hat completely wrong. Now that it's in the original shape, it shines the way it's supposed to.

Anyway, thought I would share because I thought you would understand my amusement. :)

Hi,

Wonderful story, and congrats for having the fashion "eye" to recognize the original style. So many hats have been altered, it can be a mystery to figure out what is original sometime.

Is it possible to post the label for us to see? The hat looks as if it is early 1960's, with that Flapper revival thing going on. Even from the photo, you can see the expert craftmanship going on, it is a true artistic masterpiece.

Just sayin'! B

Thank you! :) I'm excited about it because it turned out to be a little treasure. I have been wanting a nice cloche style hat for awhile and this one fits me perfectly.

I thought it did look more 20's than 40's... but I wasn't sure about the history of the designer and it seemed too early in his career for it to be from the 20's... so maybe 60s seems a better time period. :)

Here is a pic of the label:

I was thinking along those lines, as not been a typical 40's style, you cannot get ways from the small fact it's a great hat.
hats off or finding it, ( go to bed pauline and be sensable)
