So, i have just spent a good half an fur on the fur resource trying too distinguish what the fur is of this coat, and i am stuck like sticky toffee!

Any help would be appreciated.

fyi its incredibly soft and fine and some of the hairs are quite long and almost glisten in the light whilst others are a lot thicker. Ill post a close up of the fur too.

To post photos from flickr you have to copy the html code from the "share this" drop down menu for each photo, then paste it here on the forums.

i should have mentioned this too...when i bought it i was told it was mink...which i really dont think it is, which through me further.

But yes, marmot was what i was thinking it probably was.

Its so damned heavy i struggled to lift it (i am small and weak...but still!)

Is the underfur thick? Then it could be muskrat but it could very well be mink. Take it to a furrier for confirmation.

Thanks for all the help! Yes the underfur is pretty thick.

I actually bought it at a car boot sale (it was so cheap i just wanted it to stroke more than anything!) The woman told me all 3 coats she had were mink (this was the only one that i bought mind you as the others were shedding a bit) the other two definitely weren't. People seem to see a fur coat and go its mink! It just seems to be the generic answer!

How i wish it was easier to take it to a furriers, if only i still lived in London rather than rural Hampshire!

I own a jacket that looks very similar to this fur, except a little more grey in color. My local furrier identified it as muskrat. Good luck!
