Fur Coat Identification (Type of fur/Age of coat)

Hello, VFG members!

It has been quite some time since I have been logged onto this website. I have recently purchased a new (vintage) fur coat and am looking to see if anyone can help me with the identification of the type of fur and age of the coat. I am assuming it is a sheared beaver coat or dyed coney. The age has me stumped. I purchased it thinking it was from the 1940s, but am thinking maybe it is a little older now that I see it in person… Also believe that it has Bakelite buttons. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi there, It is dyed coney aka rabbit and it looks like it dates to the latter portion of the 60s. The lining is very pretty.

You are correct. That is Russian squirrel. Looks like a 40s cape with armholes unless I am missing the sleeves. Love that style.
