The cape is gorgeous. I don't know what the fur type is though. The condition has made the fur type indistinguishable to me because I cannot clearly define the characteristics to be that of one fur type or another.
Wish I could help more and I could make guesses based on what I do see but they would just be that.
The problem is that there is a lot of guardhair breakage and there is some matting so the way the fur was is much different now. Even the coloration can appear different than what it originally was.
This happens a lot in Edwardian and older pieces.
Part of me wants to say it could be fox too but it's just too far off for me to guess that it one had the density that fox fur has.
I will admit my initial reaction was fox which was very dried out and matted but like Caryn there was a big ???? Whenever I've encountered this sort of fur if it is dried fox I have noticed that it really starts to come out in clumps.
