Fur ID. Shearing perhaps?

Greetings!
My goodness, I love this forum! I am learning so much from all of you!

Ok. This coat is a remake I think.
The underside of the sleeves are now leather
The inside shows beautiful lining with new pad under the arms.

I like the "wild" look of the collar but think I would like it better on a wool or leather cardigan or jacket. This could alsi be a great vest with collar and side inserts of leather. It takes the bulk down that way and I think would be quite comfortable. I could see a suede pencil skirt with fur at the bottom edge.
Perhaps an hat?

If it has been redone and not in original format, is it a bad thing to remake it?

What is my mystery fur?
Thoughts of origin?

This is American raccoon, not tanuki
What’s interesting that I did not pick up on before is that the body does appear to be American raccoon, so please forgive me and allow me to make the following correction.
The body of the coat is American raccoon and if it weren’t for the back of the collar I would say that too. The density, peppered coloration and feathered appearance at the edges as opposed to the fur within the body which lays flatter, has less density, and a striped appearance is more consistent with tanuki or the asiatic raccoon dog. This is why they say the two fur types look alike. :)

Fantastic information as always! Thank you, both!

I am astonished any can be identified by photos.

This collar is one of my favorites. I love that wild look to it. I did think it was two types of fur but now I can more closely understand how.

You are teaching me well! I so appreciate it.

I'm not planning to go into the clothing nor fur business, I have three storage units from my design house of home Decor.
But, if I were...you are the GoTo place!

Okay, more closet digging.

Thank you both so much!

I wanted to come back to show you a photo comparison. The coat on top is full American raccoon. Credit to furhatworld who is offering that lovely coat. Yours looks like American Raccoon throughout the body but the collar is Asiatic raccoon dog aka Tanuki.
The American raccoon has the appearance of darker lines within the pattern which you can see within the body of both coats while the tanuki collar has more of a peppered and feathered appearance, and more density and volume.
