Fur Identification Testing

Fern and Feather

Registered Guest
I recently came upon a fur coat in excellent condition, I suspect from 1930-40s. I’m not sure which type of fur is used. Is there a service that can test the fiber/hair/fur to identify which animal it is?

It’s important to me that the coat is not damaged in any way to identify. Open to any suggestions <3 I thank you in advance.

You can first review the fur resource here and see if something looks familiar to yours. You can also post pictures of your garment as well as close up shots of the fur and maybe someone can assist too.

I checked out the guide and the closest image matches are Beaver, Marmot or Otter. However the description of the above furs don’t seem to match the feel of the coat fur.

I’m attaching pictures in case anyone can help with this. The brand label is Carol Brent, which according to the other guides on this site was part of Montgomery Ward.. but I can’t locate more information on the coats they may have sold.
