Fur Spots Not identified - Wrap

Hi!!

today I found this wrap (stole) online but I just cannot identify if the spots are from a real animal or if they were just painted to try to simule something (which to be honest I do not know)

The owner says it’s from 40’s but has no label.

What are your thoughts?

I know very little about fur, but this very much looks like a printed pattern on faux fur to me. I would also be inclined to think the stole dates from the 1950s.

In the close ups it looks like it could be real fur to me. But the pattern doesn't look genuine, so perhaps printed or painted on to a plainer fur.

Maybe imitating jaguar fur.

I agree it looks like real fur. I know that fur pattern....have to jog my memory.

So, would you said that that pattern is truly “an animal print” from 50’s? I have to be honest I’ve never seen anything like that.

Could it be Snow Leopard? Did they make fur from Snow Leopard? Or, mimic it? If you can get a close up up the fur, where the pattern is, and spread the hairs out to see if the color runs to the root, it is real. Just not sure what kind of real.

@dollsntrolls although the color made me think the same (that it was snow leopard) the pattern looks unrealistic to me, but I will try to see the roots I think this is a good idea to confirm if it is painted or true colors.

@Bonnie Bien I would love to read your thought on this piece.

It looks like rabbit with a snow leopard print

I think it's imitating jaguar because of the spot in the middle. Jaguars have that spot in the centre of the rosette, but leopards, including snow leopards, don't. But I don't find it a very realistic print to be honest, so it could just be trying to be any kind of spotted cat.

I have a 1950s leopard print coat, which is made of some kind of sheepskin or Mouton, with a leopard spot print applied. So yes this kind of thing was done in the 50s.

I'd be very surprised if it's not a print, very surprised if it's actually a from a spotted animal.
