Fur, what is this?

this was listed as mink, just arrived, doesn't seem like mink. what fur might it be, and how old? last pick is of a ziper in the muff, ruched fabric backing, thanks

Hi Melanie, I agree that it doesn't look like mink but I'm not a fur expert so my opinion doesn't count for much - but I can recommend that you have a look at the VFG Fur Resource and compare the look and feel of your fur to the ones listed. You can see it belongs to something small, as the pelts are narrow.

I'm not sure what you mean about the muff: is this a part of the capelet or a separate (not photographed) piece? Actually, is it a capelet or is it a jacket?

From the photos, it looks like a '40s capelet to me.
 
Hi Melanie, It is indeed Marmot dyed to look like Mink from the 40s that may have then been offered as Mink dyed Marmot or some other fictitious name that had the word Mink in it.
This is one of the fur types that was advertised and offered with fictitious names that misled and confused buyers who sometimes thought they were buying one animal fur type, Mink in this case, when it really was not Mink at all.
