Garland's 'Wizard of Oz' dress to join ruby slippers at auction

Wasn't this dress in the Debbie Reynold's auction. And I'm sure where I've seen the shoes sold before at auction. I guess there could be more than one of each.

I think 1 pr of shoes was auctioned not SO long ago, and don't I recall a high profile theft and that pair of shoes still missing? I would expect multiple pairs in wardrobe for Garland AND a foot model (much smaller size)--and was there a body double/stand-in as well?

From memory, there are four pairs of the shoes and the dress that Debbie Reynolds had was the one Garland wore in the screen test, not the actual movie. I would expect there to be more than one dress too - films commonly have multiples of major costumes.

It depends on who you talk to about how many pairs were made (between 5 and 8), and how you define what makes a pair... The pair with the upturned toes were made for a screen test but never appeared in the film. There were pairs in different sizes because Judy Garland's feet swelled badly during the day, there were also pairs used for dancing, and pairs used for close-up, and extra pairs on standby in case they got damaged. Every authority on the subject has a different story. I believe five pairs are known to survive if you include Debbie Reynolds pair with the upturned toes, but many don't.
