I am trying to find information on the Mary Muffet dress company. I saw a few things made by them, and was impressed with their label from one yellow dress. Are they obscure ?

I also keep trying to find an old ad for the strange shoes found in the backs of magazines during the 1960's ? called Catkins ? They had really round toes, and the shoe ties resembled a cat's whiskers.

My mother had a green taffeta dress that had some unusual effects on it. It looked almost like someone had printed an almond shape all over the dress, but it was part of the fabric itself. I have seen taffeta that had something xtra going on back in the early 50's. Between that, and dotted swiss, I am hard pressed to find modern fabrics that can match the old quality.

I looked through the Proquest newspaper database and the earliest reference to Mary Muffet dresses I found was in a 1938 ad for their junior or young-miss dresses. They were based in St. Louis and they apparently concentrated on junior dresses.

The last reference I found in that database was a 1947 article that mentioned "...Samuel C. Klein, co-owner of Mary Muffet, Inc..."

I sold this Mary Muffett dress about a month ago. I dated it to the mid 60s. I can't find my photo of the label but I will keep looking.
