GIRL’S MOHAIR COAT and HAT

I sell vintage and antique fashions plus accessories at an antique mall. I am in much need of some professional assistance with these particular items. They appear to be woven mohair. The hat has a fur foot? attached. They were purchased at auction from an auction house. They sold a lot of vintage antique fashions that week. Presumably from a dealer that went out of business. I always seem to struggle with dating Children’s fashions.

Any info you can provide would be most helpful.

That is adorable. I have had a good number of these pass through my hands over the years. They were in fashion for babies and toddlers, both boys and girls, in the late Victorian and early Edwardian era. So yours is likely circa 1890s to early 1900s. I once had a set in red mohair which was a fun color and it also had an animal on the bonnet, mine was a tiny mouse head in red fur.

Here is a photo of baby boy in a quite fancy set, taken about 1885-1895. His coat is very furry!

Thank you! I love that photo. And you were right about the hat. Closer inspection revealed a mouse head! I appreciate you answering my question. If I can ask one more - what is the value? What should I price it at?
