Girl\'s Dress Date Help Please!

:hiya:

Sometimes I wonder what I'm thinking when I bring stuff back from my little rummages.

But must be the little girl in me, dressing up dolls etc, that made me pick this little little girl's dress up with it's matching jacket.

Now I know from an earlier post that Chinatown mass produce clothes, so this could well be a recent dress.

In UK I think our embargo on Chinese goods stopped in 1960.

Be nice to think there's some age in this sweet outfit, even if back to 80s, there's a little bit of yellowing inside jacket, metal zipper. But if not vintage I love it anyway!

How adorable! Sarah, I am not at all knowledgeable about little girls' fashions (I simply HATED dresses when I was one), but this looks older to me, in fact, very 60s to me. The full skirt, the little short jacket, even that belt at the back, which was a very common feature in 60's dresses and coats.

Of course, they may make little girls' dresses like this today, but since I have two boys, I don't know!

Another vote for '60s - style, fabric and button all look '60s. Sarah, as you mention some styles are still being remade but I think if this was more modern it would have had a nylon zipper.

 Thanks Anne and Nicole, I was secretly hoping it was 60s re the design and typical 60s fabric and how it's constructed.

I was sitting in the garden yest looking the dress over & repeating to my poor other half 'I'm sure it's 60s, look at the way it's .... and that.. and fabric...' but then confused as know that these dresses could still be produced today & handmade areas & maybe metal zips not uncommon etc, so to put him out of HIS misery, he suggested asking the forum otherwise he would have had to strangle me!

Nicole, good to know that they would still keep to nylon zips if modern. The only one doubt I had was that the lace skirt is not hemmed just cut which is strange compared to the good construction & hemming of the rest. Strange.

Anne, I used to have dresses like this when I was a child but found it more fun dressing my brother in them and then telling him to go and show Dad......tee hee!

Here's a pic of the inside of the jacket re construction just out of interest. The buttons are just for show, the dress & jacket are closed with press studs hand sewn. I hope there's a market for vintage children's clothes. I will research.

That's lovely! I saw a little parka the other day (girls) and it was all I could do not to buy it (since I have a boy) - but I Can see, I'm into it, but Marc gives me the :puzzled: look for anything but the cute skirts and dresses on me - those he loves :) as far as vintage on our boy - it'd have to be uber cool or I'd get the Uuuuh look lol the dress is gorgeous though, as long as you tag it right it should go I think, just becasue it's timeless.

Sarah, I have had very good luck selling little girls' vintage, but not boys' stuff. I haven't sold any recently, but I had a large batch of Polly Flinders dresses that a friend gave me when I was expecting and wanted to be surprised (!), so when "it" turned out to be a he, I couldn't use them. They sold very well on eBay, and there were even a couple that were unlabeled, so I coudn't sell as authentic Polly Flinders' and even those sold well. Your darling little outfit would make a lovely Easter outfit, dress to wear to a wedding reception or holiday party, etc. I'm sure someone will fall in love with it!
