Glam Evening Dress...30\'s or 40\'s?

Hi everyone. I just picked up this lovely evening dress and I am not sure if it is late 30's or 40's. (poor light for pics today)

It has cap-like sleeves, a lovely illusion lace bodice, pinked seams and a wonderful feature on the front of the dress...not sure what to call it except straight pleats with butterfly ruche on the sides? Not a side zipper, though....back metal "talon" zipper.

Anyone good with dates??? And keyword help?:D Thanks......

ooh gail, that's gorgeous! i have one in a very similar style (though nowhere near as pretty!) with a thick back zip and i had assumed it was early 40s - although the zip threw me.

interested to hear what everyone else thinks about yours!

Anyone else have any ideas about age, keywords or correct definition of the front pleat/ruche feature?

Definately late 1940s although if it is American a zipper is possible in a mid 40s dress, but this style of dress was being made right up to about 1950. You see them in catalogues that late, although stylistically I think they are better for mid 1940s.
