Hi, I need help dating this handbag! It's heavily beaded with different sizes and shapes of beads on both sides to create a bamboo design??? The bag originally came from Miami. The strap is also beaded. There is no label. I can feel there is a padded inner liner between the yellow lining and the outer layer of beading. If I was to guess I think it might me early 50s????

Your help wld be great!

Sarah

I think this bag is 1960's. I often find similar bags with labels that say 'made in hong kong', Like the 50s and 60s beaded cardigans. It's a great bag!

Agreed: '60s. You see a lot of them, although I am yet to see another with a bamboo design.

These are commonly misdated as '50s, they did have beaded handbags then but there are differences - in the '60s there were large factories in Hong Kong handbeading bags and knitwear. It must have been quite an industry judging by all the beaded goodies that have survived!

lol Karen's a bag addict :) It's good for me to know the beades ones were made in hong kong in the 60s, I thought if it was made in hong kong that made it 80s, so all the beaded 60s bags I left behind  may they be loved wherever they are... :)

:D Awh thanks for all the kind comments. It's actually quite a heavy bag as I found out yest. I took it to my darling cousin's funeral who was gay & proud and I know he wld hv appreciated it & I got alot of compliments from his lovely friends (he loved USA & went 2 Uni for American Studies so my Miami bling handbag he wld hv loved). Sorry if this makes any1 feel awkward or uncomfortable :(

Oh Sarah - not at all :sunshine: I'm sure your cousin will be looking down with a smile. It's so thoughtful of you to take along a bag you know he would have loved and his friends obviously appreciated it too. You must have been very special to him. Hope you are ok. I'm sorry about your loss.

great Cusper bag..yeah probably made in Hong Kong, many the glam bags and knitwear and cocktail dresses came from there...
