Gorgeous online exhibits of Worth and Mainbocher ... SWOON!

This is wonderful link, Liza. Thanks for posting it. I especially enjoy reading the descriptions of the pieces. I've bookmarked the page so I can go back and wander through at my leisure.

That is so cool that Claire was involved. Kudos to her, because it is a really terrific exhibit. And frankly, with the expense and logistics of traveling I have planned, I was relieved that this was entirely online.

I found this exhibit's descriptions to be clear, well-written (they didn't go crazy with the jargon and assume that anyone interested in costume is also well-versed in the terminology of dressmaking), with information was actually interesting, and put things in historical perspective. Very well done.

I'm definitely going to return for another long look and do more reading. Can't say I got a thing listed yesterday. Too much time spent in virtual museums!

On my travel roster (now that kids are getting a bit older, I can finally leave the immediate area). Any of these exhibits would be so much more fun with a friend. Please join me:
  • This weekend! - Ann Bonfoey Taylor Exhibition in Athens, Ga., just an hour's drive from me. Lizzie highly recommends, and who am I to argue ; )? Read about it: http://georgiamuseum.org/art/exhibitions/on-view/fashion-independent
  • Labor Day (9/2) - Chicago for Impressionism/Fashion/Modernity (opens today, closes 9/22). I have a hotel room, but no airfare booked yet. Supposed to go with friend, but unsure if she'll be able to make it. I'm going, regardless. Join me?
  • Some time in late fall - Doylestown (Phila), Pennsylvania for Grace Kelly (10/31/13 - 1/26/14, and the only U.S. stop, they tell me. Anyone want to go? If so, I can adjust to your schedule.
  • Jan. ~9-12, 2014 - Richmond, Va., for Hollywood Costume (trying to hook up with Lizzie, who'll be there for a symposium). Anybody else interested or planning to be there at that time?

Liza, if you will pick a couple of garments (Worth and Main) you like, I'll post some of my details. Sadly, it won't be immediately; I'm swamped with work until about 1 Sept. Send me an email then as a reminder. The photos have to be down sized or I could send a selection by You send it to someone who downsize them for me.

In Chicago, you also want to see the Ebony Fashion Fair exhibit. The article I wrote about it is in the current Threads Mag. You'll love the Impressionism exhibit. There's one garment that is in a painting and several that are quite similar to those painted.

Back to work. C

Oh, that Worth and Mainbocher exhibition looks amazing - wish I could see it (and I would gladly join you for any of the other ones, Liza, if it were that easy :hysterical:). Just back from my holiday and I'm probably pretty broke...

The Impression exhibition is just gorgeous - you have to see it! The dresses are amazing, and the way at least how it was presented in Paris, let one have a really good look at them. Mom and I spent forever in there...
