Hi all!
Super excited to find this resource! I hope to be able to find answers about some pieces I have from my grandmothers closet, as well as perhaps provide some nice pictures of pieces from the 40's and 50's. I have a few dresses, coats, a single hat, and a plethora of jewelry.
First up are pictures of a coat or cape of sorts. It has no designer label, only the label pictured in a side seam. My parents we visiting over the holidays and mom suggested it might have been from a fashion show.
I wear anything I can find use for and recently wore this pretty to a holiday concert at The Kennedy Center in DC. It strikes me as very "Jackie-O" so I thought it fitting.
Unfortunately it rained that evening and now I must find a reputable place to have it cleaned and hopefully remove the water spot. You will note in the pictures that there are pins in the hem-line. I didn't discover this until after I wore it. Grandma was a bit of a seamstress and I'm guessing she intended to mend it, but never got around to it. (As it is an invisible stitch, I can surely see why!)
Troubling are the few pin-head sized holes in the back. Honestly, this would never prevent me from wearing it and I am led to believe it won't get any larger or frey (would it?).
All in all, how much might I expect to pay to have it cleaned? The hem repaired? And the holes (if possible) repaired?
