Grandmother\'s Fashion Magazine -- Updated for 2009

My always fabulous and stylish maternal Grandmother subscribed to several fashion magazines ~ as a little girl I was fascinated by the images of stylish women wearing beautiful clothes.

One of her favorites was Harpers Bazaar ~ she always had
it laying on her coffee table and I could spend hours pouring through the stunning pictures.

Anyway, time passed and I hadn't looked at Harpers for years and years when I received an offer for a free year's subscription out of the blue from my airline credit card.

Who could pass that opportunity by? My first magazine arrived a few days ago and is just as full of great images of stylish women wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry (much of it vintage inspried) as it was back in Grandmother's day.

An article entitled "6 Key Pieces for Fall" shows vintage inspired gray cardigan sweaters and camel hair topcoats as being key trends. So fun and great information for all of us.

Check it out ~

omg, i LOVE the Proenza Schouler Collection...and Oscar de la Renta has some LOVELY pieces, that orange dress with coat is TOTALLY vintage inspired!!!

Calvin Klein BORING. ditto Michael Kors. yawn.

Rodarte looks like they just kept running out of fabric.

and i LOVE this Marc Jacobs...http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashio.../best-of-new-york-fashion-week-fall-2009-0209

and the DKNY looks so WEARABLE love the red coat...

I love the older magazines. I have a huge collection of 1940s McCalls and Journal. I'm always on the hunt for vogue. I recently purchased 2 boxes of Better Homes and Gardens. I love looking through them but heavens they smell horrible.

Ohh.. memories! my gram had Harpers too..

boy, have they "come a long way baby".. what a great magazine still! thanks Debbie, Mary, you are right, great articles!

a friend who knows i love old magazines, recently gave me one... but its a "Life".. yuk.. gotta train him for "fashion"..lol

Chris, try putting your magazines in a black trash bag with kitty litter, sometimes that will pull the smell, otherwise "outside fresh air"..

btw.. i am so coveting that aqua lace slip you have on RubyLane Debbie.. trade you for my red one? lol.. your color is fabulous!!

Oh, how I loved Harper's Bazaar when I was a little girl. I was so in awe of the lovely ladies with their gorgeous hairdos, makeup, and clothing!

Several of the gowns in the fall collections have such wonderfully classic looks. I can do without some of the more "far out" things. But the ones that follow the classics with some added flair (like the one red gown) are to die for!
