Gucci Lynx Fur & Brown Suede Cape

Hello All,
I have a very unusual item that I think may well date pre-World War II, though I am truly not sure of it's authenticity. It belongs to my mother who purchased it in Atlanta (Sandy Springs) at a consignment shop during the late 1970's. She believes the shop owner was a former model with the first name of Doris.

The workmanship is excellent, and the fur is definitely real and truly spectacular, but the labeling is minimalist & vintage in feel and appearence. Also, the lining appears to the hand to be silk - but I am not sure it is silk- as there are no other modern labels on this cape. Any help dating and authenticating would be much appreciated.
More pics available upon request.

Wow! that is pretty spectacular.

Really, you would need to take this in person to an appraiser to get authentication.
I am a bit skeptical that it is pre WWll, but I haven't seen anything quite like it.

Thank you Brenda,
that is the next step- we are in rural South, so appraisers for an item like this are hard to find. Hopefully I can get more info on this label on this forum. That's the part that seems so simplistic too me- & thus I thought aged. It's in good shape as it has been stored well- no bare spots in fur or anything.

I concur with Brenda - I think it's from the '70s, I'll go with early '70s which tallies with a consignment shop - they usually stock mostly garments less than 5 years. Ones around here only like stock that's less than two years old.

It's spectacular and likely to be valuable so I agree with getting a professional appraisal. You could perhaps contact a big auction house that sells vintage designer goods.

that IS spectacular!

but agree with Brenda on dating ~ those designer linings and that sort of button typically indicate a 1970s garment

Ah, Ok- thanks ladies- I appreciate the info- that's why I posted here- because I have no idea about those details - and I figured folks like you would have at least seen something similar. So probably 70's then - any idea of value ?

I would suggest, maybe just to get an idea to look at sold items on ebay or a site like that. Just search for vintage gucci fur and look at completed listings and see what they sold for. That might be a start anyway. Good Luck!
