Guy Laroche

I'm wondering if this is early 90s. The cut of the jacket reminds me of one I owned in the midish+ 80s, but the colouring is like that of the plummy 90s period that Chris had mentioned a while back. The Diffusion label is different than the one from the late 70s in the resource.

Actually, I just noticed the skirt label is exactly the same as in the resource. The above label
is for the jacket.

Deborah, I can't help much with the date, but it is a very lovely suit! I have only one Laroche piece, but it's over-the-top 80's, and this suit looks nothing like it! The lines of the jacket are very, very similar to a suit I had in the mid 80s, but I'm afraid the skirt gives me no clue. Lots of help I am--LOL!

l wore a jacket like this, different make, collarless, for an interview in 1986...red/black checks....does that help?

Oh good. Thanks so much Sara! If you, Anne and I wore something similar in the mid 80s, then I guess the mid 80s it must be. Somehow I associate almost anything 80s with huge football shoulder pads.

Its such a classic corporate woman look... I would expect it to date after 1983, otherwise I expect to see it with a mandarin collar or deep lapels. That collarless front button look is so Chanel revival c. 1983 when Lagerfeld took over the Chanel line again. Problem is, women who bought suits like this wore them for a decade. I remember my boss still wearing this style, virtually identical until the mid 90s. Although the heavy braid trim and domed brown plastic buttons are a bit outre by the 90s -- would expect to see metallic buttons and no braid on the skirt by then, plus a slightly shorter hemline. I would guess its somewhere between 1983 and 1989.
