Hi Marie,

This label and history is documented, in fact a search under label resources on this site will give you most of the info' you need, written by fuzzy lizzie.

Your jacket reminds me of a style and design worn by the French during the 40s & 50s, especially pre-and post was years and I have seen a similar jacket in brown corduroy.

Edit, there you go.

I am seeing late 1970s or early 80s with this jacket. We don't have that particular label in the resource.
Hi Mary,

I see late 80s into 90s but as I am continually finding, how far out I can be.

That label design would narrow year of manufacture further.

Edit

I did a quick search, as I wrote earlier, the jacket reminded me of a throw back to the 1940s.

I found this jacket which had been sold on ebay by a seller who I'm unable to give a credit to
and is circa 1940s.

It is different but maybe you can see where I'm coming from.

From that one photo of the brown jacket, I don't know who the seller is but I don't see 40s from that jacket either....looks boxy and the lapels don't look right for 40s. Did that jacket have any labels?

The unique thing about the Laroche jacket is the little tie at the top.
Hello Mary Jane,

No as far as I can tell, no description other then 1940s.

But a search and I was able to go back to the 1930s with the design and what I was referring to and what I thought when I saw Marie's jacket.

It just smacks of a classic 1940s, every day work wear design, worn by many no doubt but I associate with the French of the 1940s.

Clearly Marie's jacket is a more recent homage to that design but its all there and what I immediately thought.

There are several examples, not 40s but here is a link to one stating it is 1930s.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...esc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=Mens+Vintage+Barbe+Blue.

This type of jacket came in several guises and improved upon over the years but I so see, French Partisan, Resistance, Country, Utility work jacket of the 40s in Marie's example.

Actually, I believe Marie's jacket may be for a woman, if the buttons do up on the left it would a ladies jacket.

That ebay link takes me to a bunch of mainly outerwear jackets, not to the one specific you mentioned.
It is a woman's jacket, the point I was raising, the design imo it a throwback to a design popular with the French in the 1940s.

The brown jacket photo was a copy and paste of an example I had in mind sold on Ebay by a seller I was unable to give a credit to.

The Ebay link, that bunch you refer to, the first listing on the page which didn't occur to me required explaining, was an attempt to show the jacket design went back away.

But the men's brown jacket photo was what I had more in mind.

In that photo, the lapels are very right for the 1940s.

More importantly I feel and something you referred to is label resources do not have an image of that design of Guy Laroche label to add to those submitted and I hope Marie will do so.

Now known through Donna's efforts the label dates between 1985, 2004 and to that end I do see late 80s 90s in Marie's example, an updated design on a garment that's been around awhile and to my mind screams French 1940s, utility, workwear, male or female.

I think a bit of confusion started because your original answer to the OP wasn’t quite clear that you felt the jacket was a throwback to the 40s/50s. It could easily be interpreted to mean that you felt the OP‘s jacket actually could be from the 40s/50s. At least, that’s what I originally thought you meant, and I believe that’s what Mary Jane might have thought you meant as well.
Thanks for clearing things up!

I understand what you are saying...about it being inspired from an earlier time. For me when I think of more casual workwear from that earlier period I envision more of a loose smock like jacket cut with more detailed pockets. I have to admit that I have not had the good fortune of running across more casual jackets from that time frame. I tend to find more formal wear or actual suits for men from that time.

Hello everyone,
I believe this label is of a collaboration with La Redoute, the french mail-order company (now of course e-commerce too). They have been doing designer collaborations under the name "L'invite de la saison" (Guest of the season) since 1969 (!!), with important designers, including Issey Miyake, YSL, Lacroix, Chloe, Isabel Marant etc. Recreating many iconic pieces.
I sold a while ago an YSL for La Redoute tuxedo blazer, from 1996:

So i think the Guy Laroche of the OP is a throwback, and dates probably from the 90s, maybe late 80s.

Hi,

This label is Guy Laroche par Alber Elbaz from 1998 A/W , It was a collaboration with La Redoute.
From April we are releasing a Griffé magazine which will talk about labels, there will be an article on the collaborations of La Redoute
