Haas Soeurs dress

Has anyone here ever come across a dress with a Haas Soeurs label? I have this fantastic beaded gown, but haven't been able to find any images of other dresses, though the Met has a hat from 1910 (and there are several examples of hats from the 40s with other designer labels and with Haas Soeurs as the maker). I would love to see other examples!

So far I have been able to determine that Haas Souers (Berthe and Rose) Millinery and Gowns was in business from at least 1912, when they were located at 649 Madison Avenue in New York. By 1918 they had moved to 743 Fifth Avenue. In the 1940s they were still in business, though the focus seemed to be on millinery at that time. I was able to find an illustration of an early 1930s day dress in the Vogue Archive, but nothing else.

That is, indeed, a beautiful dress. I. found a little additional information about the store/label for you:

-- A 1939 obit for Ernestine Lippmann Haas, who "helped found Haas Soeurs" thirty three years earlier, so the store was established a bit before your 1912 date. The obit added: "...her daughters, Mrs. Bertha Metzler and Mrs. Rose Bloch, both of New York, are president and vice president respectively."

-- A 1947 article about the piracy of dress designs commented: "At Haas Soeurs, in the Savoy-Plaza, a specialty shop that sells dresses costing less than at the above-mentioned couturiers, the owner, William Metzler, said 'after a dress has been in the windows, it is copied a few weeks later.'"

-- A 1951 obit for Bertha Metzler noted "Mrs. Bertha Metzler, owner with her husband, William, of Haas Soeurs, Inc., retail dress shop in the Savoy-Plaza Hotel..." So Haas Soeurs was in operation a bit later than the 1940's.

I wonder if this is the same Haas family that had a tailoring shop in Baltimore that made high end suits and military uniforms? I just sold a 1940s nurse's cape from Haas Tailoring Co.
