Hair Flowers- Were they a genuine fashion trend in the 50s?

Hi All,

After some help. Whilst I was doing some research into hats of the 195os I got to thinking about hair flowers. In the 1950s how much of a big trend were hair flowers? I mean now, if someone is creating a "vintage inspired" hair style the first thing that tends to be encorporated is hair flowers...but after searching through numerous magazines and books I haven't found ANY images of women actually wearing hair flowers in the 50s apart from those secured into hats. Can anyone shed any light for me??? Thanks!

Liz

(PS Sorry if there are tons of spelling mistakes in this using a pc which doesn't have a functioning spellcheck facility!)

Hi,

I agree with Jonathan. Wearing flowers in the hair was not a genuine fashion trend in the 1950s. You might see ponytails secured with flowered rubber bands or clips, but that was more for the teenage girl. Hair in the 1950s (in general) was more sleek, worn short or close to the head. I usually think of the 1940s when I think of flowers in the hair.

There's a blog about hair flowers HERE.
