Halston III Jacket

Hi there. I have a question about a Halston III jacket I have. I have checked out the label resource and done a bit of research and I know that it is the label produced for JC Penney from 1983. What I want to know is does anyone know if Halston ever designed the JC Penney label personally as I know he was not keen on licensing his name and if so is there any way to tell whether the jacket is an earlier or a later version. Also was the Halston III label produced into the 90's?

To me, the shawl collar + shoulder pads say very early 90s to me, but that pink was around earlier. I would get a second opinion!

The Halston label went into decline with the introduction of the Halston lll line for J C Penney in 1983 -- upscale department stores did not like the idea of a line that was also available in middle-class department stores. Eventually he lost control of his name and many items were produced by others under the Halston lll label. The House of Halston survived its namesake's death in 1990, and is currently being designed by Bradley Bayou."

Hmm...I am wondering if he did indeed design the early stuff, and then later other people did but i can't say when. Lizzie wrote the bio for Halston so maybe she could shed some light, Emma

You know...now that i think of it...i think i had a purse circa 1986 that had that color scheme pink with a purple overlay.

But i would be curious to see what others have to say!

I think that jacket is 80s. Weren't the 90s jackets a lot longer? Also, I think that neon pink color became popular about 1985 or 1986.

You know what, i wasn't paying attention to the length.

There were shorter jackets in the early 90s but not this style. They would have been more of a three button and a little more closed if they were shorter. and then those boxy jackets came out later

Thanks Jenn, I just put it together the way I would have worn it had it fitted me, which it sadly didn't. I love the pink colour though that was 100% the reason why I bought it. I am really interested to hear everyone's replies too (thanks everyone!) to be honest when I bought it for myself I just really loved the colour and wasn't too bothered about the exact date. I had thought it might be 90's myself, but you are right about 90's jackets all having 3 buttons, at least that is my experience too.
