Handbag Gurus - D\'ya think it\'s 50\'s?

The label matches all I've found for 50's Dorset-Rex bags.

I need to get better pics, but just got this Unique bag today & I'm jazzed about it. Condition is just Good. Some small nibbles on one corner of the satin. Not too terribly noticeable, but enough that I can't say it's very good or better. I'd carry it for what that's worth.

It's brushed brass & matte black satin. And please tell me one more time how to tell plastic from bakelite. (sorry)

Thank you!

That's wonderful! I have a two-tone metal purse in that shape (no label), with the metal in strips. Later 50s, maybe?

I doubt the handle is Bakelite (since Dorset-Rex manufactured Lucite as well as metal/lucite purses), but you can always test it by either rubbing hard with your thumb and sniffing for any formaldehyde scent once the plastic's warmed up, or testing with a Q-tip and either Formula 409 or Simichrome (if Bakelite, the Q-tip will turn yellow; be sure to wipe off the residue with a damp cloth afterward).

I agree it looks Lucite how it shaped to make a statment more than just a handel " I am Lucite handel"

oh my goodness... :BAGUSE:

I typed bakelite & the whole time I really was really looking for the word lucite. what a dork! LOL

Many Thanks - I know that it's lucite without even testing it.

And thanks so much for the refresher course on testing bakelite, Carrie. I've saved it now.

As to the date - late 50's. hmmmm. I guess that makes sense as it is rather fashion forward.
