Handmade/Homemade Ladies Suit?

I picked up this rather odd suit last week and am wondering if it might be homemade or at least handmade. It is a very heavy material - appears to be wool. The skirt has what seems to be a strange waistband as it is exposed elastic. Skirt expands to almost 40". Jacket is short and has kind of unique buttons - looks almost like metal studs on them.

A little pic heavy but wanted you to see lining as I thought it might help decipher. Side metal zipper that says Zipp. When do you think was made? No labels of course.

My husband says I am adverse to color so of course I was drawn to this - I love olive and I actually like this suit quite a bit but am just trying to figure out its "story."

Thanks so much all! Appreciate.

Again - sorry so pic heavy but thought might be helpful.

The suit appears to be 1960's to me because of the color and shorter sleeves. Home sewers did not always follow recommended fabric guidelines. I would say it is home made. If expertly done I call sewn at home clothing "custom made" or "made by a skilled seamstress." The collar seems crisply turned, often a problem area, but the bound buttonholes are not well done. The waistband is another clue. Easier to do and expandable, too! The buttons may have been saved from an earlier decade.

Good luck.

It is sort of strange...parts are nice and others sort of a mess! Almost like two people working on it. Thanks for input. I appreciate. Came in a lot of things I purchased which were all quite nice so it just seemed out of place and got me curious.

Purely a guess but maybe it's a maternity suit that was made for or by a professional woman during the early months of pregnancy - hence the waistband and the fuller cut of the jacket. I can't really pinpoint the date but I think more '50's than '60's. How long is the skirt? - hard for me to tell from your photo.

This is quite an aha moment for me! Why didn't I tihnk of that? The jacket doesn't have a normal plus size cut to it...it hangs just a little differently and is impossible to get to fit right on manni. Maternity makes total sense. Thank you so much ladies. Perfect.
