Handmade India?

I am becoming quite fascinated by the vintage handmade India items. Have a few purses with the metal threading? gold?
Recently acquired a dress with the same floral hand work.
My ? is was there a particular time period when this was done?

I think you are talking about the Zardosi method of embroidery with metal threads. It's an ancient art that originated in Persia and continues to this day. It becomes popular in the West whenever there is a resurgence in eastern inspired fashion which seems to happen every few years.

It's also popular in Central Asia... metallic, usually golden embroidery, on velvet. I saw that in Uzbekistan. And it's traditionally men's work :eureka:!

Yes, that must be it. If it is an antique art and resurfaces every few years I am assuming the quality would be a big factor.
I find it very lovely.
