Hello, I'm a new visitor and I'm happy to be part of this community. I have a question regarding those hanger loops that are sewn on to the inside of clothing. Does anyone know what decade this started? I've tried to search in google but it's not giving much info on this topic. thanks in advance. Bianca

If you mean the little bar of fabric, or sometimes chain that is at the nape of a jacket, they go back to the 19th century when wardrobes had hooks instead of rods and hangers. It's most common on men's jackets first and then you also find it in women's tailored jackets and coats by the 1890s.

I think Bianca means the more modern version that is designed to hold clothes on modern hangers, especially while displayed in the shop, usually one at each shoulder, or each side of a skirt, etc.

These days they are usually made of very narrow ribbon, though I have seen ones made of the same fabric as the garment.

Some people cut them out after purchase.

I don't know when they started though.
