Today one of my favourite men - Fred Astaire - turns 110 years old.
I love Fred: he's so goofy and yet charming, well mannered and always well dressed. Well, except for that eccentric habit he had of wearing an old tie as a belt...but other than that, he's a total style icon.
To celebrate his birthday I've been watching clips on Youtube - watching him dance, especially with Ginger is so delightful. It sounds like he was a bit of perfectionist and worked himself hard but there's little sign of it on screen, he makes it all look so effortless, such was his art.
Here he is with Ginger Rogers dancing to "Pick Yourself Up" from Swing Time (1936). I love the way her frock swirls!
