Happy Canada Day!

To all of our Canadian members, friends, and family.

I am not Canadian, but picked up reception from Candian television where I grew up as a kid, so I guess I feel a little bit honorary :)

For the 4th of July, we do the fireworks and BBQ thing. What is the tradition in Canada? Same thing I would assume? (i know that it is a dense question but I thought I would let the Canadians tell me unless they are already gone and partying/travelling).

Happy Canada Day from an ex-pat!
Today I am going to hang the Canadian flag up outside, have a BBQ and think of Canada!

Hi Louise :hiya:

Sounds like fun! Hope its delcious. and save leftovers for us LOL. It's rainy season here in the south and tis the season to think about BBQ's that don't happen because it rains. :) I hope you have great weather today!

Its a HUGE cottage weekend so there aren't a lot of people left in the cities -- the traffic heading out of Toronto was phenomenal today! Our town has a big all day thing with kids races, an all day Amazing Race with the winners getting some big sexy bbq as the prize and fireworks at dusk. I don't know of any parades in our area but some towns have parades. Its also a big multi-cultural day with lots of communities having ethno-events -- the Latin community is having a big Salsa day in Toronto

Sounds like what goes on here - but the going away thing depends really on when the day falls. if it is mid week there is not as much...but if it makes something a 3 or 4 days weekend, a lot of folks do.

Happy Canada Day to all our members north of the border!! :kiss2:

Well, in Detroit they had (i think they still have) Freedom Festival, and it is around 4th of July but also coincides with Canada Day.

One of the big events (if they still do it) is for Detroit police officers on the Detroit side and Windsor police on the Canadian side each take a rope and get on their own bank of the Detroit river and see who wins tug of war. it isn't that wide at one part of the river...i think between 1-3 and they do it acrossed the very shortest point. yes, it was a Looong rope.

Thanks Chris!

The holiday for Canada was yesterday, and as Jonathan said it is a huge
"go to the cottage" weekend. The little town I live in is right on the
route to cottage country and starting mid afternoon Thursday, the traffic
was horrible.

We had a lot going on in town yesterday. We have a small lake and park in
town and there was a lot of stuff starting in the morning and carrying through right until midnight. Games for the kids, bands playing, exhibits - and the weather for the first time in two weeks was sunny and hot but without the horrid humidity that we have been having. The cap of the celebrations was a phenomenal fireworks display held on the lake, with
accompanying music. For a small town, we really do ourselves proud!

Happy July 4th to everyone in the US!

Sue
