I just got off the phone with my dad, who lives in Crete Illinois, wishing him a happy Father's Day. I was with him last month helping celebrate his 100th birthday. He is a pretty amazing man, still living at home, still attending mass every morning in the same parish he was baptized in, still has his driver's license, and all his brain cells.
His church helped throw his birthday party, complete with "dancing ladies" doing a routine with walkers around him in a circle. The tee-shirts they're sporting have his picture on them and "Gus's Harem"
He was a handsome man in his younger days. This is him and my mom. He looked at this photo last month and said "See? I was a snappy dresser. I had white shoes"
And for the latest in school fashion in the early 1920s, my dad, his sister, 3 of his cousins, and other classmates, outside their one room schoolhouse in the basement of the then-church..
