No...I'm a lifetime Oregonian, but grew up in the household of a record collector who had traditional jazz, particularly New Orleans style--1920s and 30s, 78s playing 24/7. The boyfriend is also a record collector and has played traditional jazz, blues, and jugband in innumerable bands over 45 years.
The other guys in the band--the personnel includes about 15 people who cycle through--are from the midwest and east coast. But all, obviously, are hardcore fans of this kind of music.
And the food....sometimes I think they're in it for the crawfish boils.
There are a fair number of NOLA emigrees in Portland and a the New Iberians is a real nostalgic experience for them.
Portland has a HUGE music scene, with dozens of clubs, live music 7 days a week , often with no charge for a convivial evening, other than an occasional pitcher of beer.
