Belated Easter bonnet topic!! Can you tell me something about this delightful hat?

Besides the gender question, I'm stumped on age and wondering whether the "22 1/2 A" on the union tag could really be the size?

Has to be a ladies hat - no man's hat will have the name Sandra inside: the chaps simply wouldn't buy them! That's my thought. It's also quite a feminine style (for a masculine style if you know what I mean)

I agree that the number written inside is a size - it equates to a large woman's size.

What Nicole said!

Mens hats are sized by single digits: 7 - 7¼ - 7½ etc.

Womens hats are sized by the actual width around, 22½ inches.

Nicole: thanks alot! I love looking at yr blog BTW.

Gayle: thanks for explaining. That makes more sense!

I've been scanning online hat info like a mad hatter and my sense is that this is early 50's and a fedora, right?

I love des chapeaux and the mode in hats & headresses, etc, but I wish I could find a good resource for post-1945 hats. Can you tell I NEVER sell hats? Sadly, in this night's accessory struggle I've discovered that this here hat in fact fits me perfectly and now I have a new quandary!!

speaking of hats, I was in NYC last week and watched the hats go by and I DO approve of the influence of Mad Men on men's hat-wearing!

That is a really sharp hat... (and my size, too!) Agree with everyone else on ladies' hat and the dating. Though I tend to think maybe more early 70s than late 60s.

If it fits you, and you love it, keep it!

thanks loads for the date correction :)

Anne, I'm going to have to list it because although it fits & I love it -- the hat doesn't love me. I've got a cloche & bonnet head.
