I don't even know where to start on this hat.
Name for this style? Possible era?

Well made with airflow?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sandy,

Well, that IS interesting! It reminds me of those antique Chinese sewing baskets, with the lid partially removed. The hat is straw and has what is called a bumper brim or roller brim. You might call it a novelty straw hat, or basket hat? Not sure on this odd one! As for the era, I cannot tell from the photos, but can you show the interior? That will give clues. It looks fairly contemporary, and from the look of the straw was probably made in China for the mass department store trade such as Target, etc.

Thank you Barbara.
Mainly why I thought vintage is it came on a sturdy cardboard stand.
Like would fit inside a hatbox.
Just thought unique. There is rope as shown and a bead.

Sandy,

Thank you for the pix of the interior. Without seeing an extreme close up of the inside ribbon, I still cannot be 100% sure on the date. But I am pretty darn sure it is contemporary. That type of straw is typical of hats that have been exported from China for the past 25 years or so. Same goes for that roller brim which was popular in the 1990s. It could have had a store label, or even a designer label such as Liz Claiborne, Anne Klein, etc.

It is very very cute and I have not seen one like it. But then I almost never go to malls or department stores unless I am forced to! For instance, I have never been inside of a Target. I hear they have great summer hats.

I agree with Barbara: cute hat, likely contemporary/modern era.

It's tempting to date items based on accouturements that accompany them (like stands, boxes etc) but they can be misleading as things are often put together over the passage of time. I've seen many, many hats stored in hatboxes that predate them by significant time periods.

Thanks all. I knew it was not terribly old but more wanted to know proper name possibly for it?
Another Time. It cannot be read. A few numbers is all.
