Hi,
I've got my little hands on these delightful hatpins each of these have a little pointy arrow bit that screws on the end. I have nop idea about pins and just wanted some advice on the age and date and what they are probably made out of! hope the pic works I have had a problem trying to resixe it LOL!!:trashpc:
thanks guys n girls xxx

I believe these little Art Deco guys were pinned through the hat and were more for decoration than utility, unlike the huge Victorian and Edwardian pins which actually anchored the hat to the equally enormous hairstyle.

I think they were originally veil pins - to hold the veil to the hat, but they did seem to become purely decorative later on. There are versions of these being made in the 1930s and 1940s.

I have in my ancient notes that the little shaped thingy that encloses the pointed end of a stickpin is called a "jargow nib." But I can't verify it online and it's not in the dictionary, so I guess I'm not staking my reputation on it!

cor you clever little bunch :cheer: thank you. I had thought Art Deco style but wasn't aware of the veil or purely decorative. I just assumed all hat pins were functional LOL! I really need to study this subject more, now I have mastered the art of reducing pics I can post more  haha xx
