the word grip comes to mind, but I honestly don't know the correct term.

the VFG "tips and tricks" article on hats calls them "v-shaped wire clamps", and says they date a hat from the early-mid 50s.

(If not for the VFG resource pages, I'd call many thingies "thingy" or some variant thereof... :D )
