Added some more pics and union tag of the black one that you asked about. The fuschia netting is a little rough on the side. I am wondering if it went to the back. I can see the stitching on the back of the hat. Also, the purple hat is just darling. The strings are present (interior) and thus leaving a floral piece loose. Not sure how to secure. There is also a small smudge to the texture of the velvet. I didn't zoom in well, so this is not the best photo.

These all belong to my client and I may offer them as a "lot." Do you have good suggestions for packaging multiple hats together. My biggest concern is their safety being together.
Thanks,
D

I can't see the first hat very well. It sorta looks like a pillbox with netting. Could you post a better picture and the same with the pink hat. Could we see it from the side?

The purple is a 1960's pillbox and very unusual. Should really do well.

The white fur is hard to date. A guess would be 60s to 70s. I have seen this type fuzzy fur on a 50s hat.

The black turban style was worn in the 1930's into the early 1940's. Very unique hat.

The last one is a cloche style, could be 60s into the early 1970s.

If anyone can offer more precise information, please do.

Good luck with these...nice lot!

The last one is a 60s pillbox. I just can't tell you anything about the pink one. Could it be handmade? The purple, fur and turban are very unique and I would think you could do well selling them separately. Are there any condition issues?

The hat that I think is faux fur is signed (w/label) Jan Leslie custom design (interior is stamped Helios HB Body Made In Italy. A couple of white stampings on it. Has 12 small set stones appear to be rhinestone (like). They are on a single bar, so not sure if they are in fact rhinestone or perhaps a foil back. The hat has been well taken care of. There are two spots on the hat (need to search for that appear to be dirt like or essentially proof that the hat was picked it up.) The owner took a dry cleaning bag and stuck it inside the hat to keep its shape. I will take a picture of the dress that it came with later, it is interesting.

The pink hat (by the way) is an Imperial wool hat. The circular tag is on the interior top of hat slightly to the side with grey writing. Can't make out the bottom writing(s).

The turban with out a doubt is my favorite. No clue on how to price it. I would buy it for my collection but I am trying hard to just say no. It has a size tag of (23). Back ribbon detail shows its age. Ribbon is slightly fading and has fraying on edges. Otherwise it is amazing and fits my head :)!!!

Finally, the purple. Vibrant purple. The mauve toned, almost have a brown hue to the florals. Snag on one of the pink toned flowers. And the flowers will need to be secured or reinforced. If you turn the hat over (interior top), a string is free or loose. This is the site of the problematic flower. There are areas of wear around the base of the hat (nearest wearer side temples). Right of hat shows a bruise or (wear) to fabric. Closest to that loose flower. The netting shows its age. There is one area where a line has seperated. This hat needs TLC and has to be taken by the true lover of hats.

I chatted with our local Costume designer at our college. She thought light steam would assist in reshaping some of the hats (there are more in my clients closet), but I don't know if that would be the case with fabric flowers on the purple. The materials or purple hat itself is very stiff and hard which will maintain its overall form.

Condition overall the black look the best to my "rookie" eyes. But I think the vibrant hats stand on their own merit. I will search for the hat books on Amazon, but please keep in touch. I whole heartedly have appreciated your time!!!
Many regards,
Denise

Netting is almost always damaged and is almost expected. It can easily be removed or replace so I wouldn't worry about that. Check the fabric closing for small worn tracks in the fabric, that would be moth damage. If possible give them some fresh air or a couple of days in the freezer to be sure they are moth free. Good luck and let us know when you list them.

Thanks!!!

I will definitely keep you posted when they are out.

Is there a place on the forum where we are allowed to state that we have "new arrivals?"

I have a client who has items that would probably be perfect for a consignment or vintage store owner. I simply post online at this point because I am a stay-at-home mommy and fashion (passionate).
Many thanks!!!

It's really helpful to show the interior of a hat. The construction - petersham ribbon, stitching and labels if there are any provides a lot of information.

I'm interested in seeing a bit more of the soft steel blue felt hat, turban shaped with the 'ears' feature. Can you show the interior? It could be 30's.

I see quite a few Jan Leslie hats for sale and they are really good quality as is yours. I think the hat is late 50's possibly early 60's. I don't know the history of the label - if and when production stopped. It's worth doing a bit of research.

Steaming felt , straw, netting and some floral hat trims is usually fine. If you don't have a commercial steamer you can use a kettle. However, I would be careful with the satin? and velvet roses as you can get water marks. They look fine actually.

Thanks for thoughts!!!

I am glad that you asked me about the stitching on the turban hat. I am seeing a couple of things in sunlight that I didn't catch. If you look at the back of the hat there are little specs (with the black fabric it is hard to tell, but the camera is picking them up well as white spots). Are those moth bites? There are also two circular areas to the side.

I got a side pic of the purple hat, and it clearly shows the snag, fabric texture, and underside or interior of the top of the hat.

I realize that because things are (vintage) they are not going to be perfect. I may just offer all of them in a (lot). Do you think it is better just to offer a few versus all of them? Many thanks for your time!!!

Thanks for posting the new pictures D. The white spots could be mold but I'm not really sure. Have you tried a small toothbrush to clean them?

I can't quite see the blue velvet hat label well enough. The wide petersham looks to be a bit damaged. You have the petersham showing as the edging outside the hat as well as tucked inside so a bit difficult to work out what's going on there. If it leans towards the 30's it could well have some quirky design going on and that would be very typical for the period. I saw those 'ears' and I thought of Schiaparelli and her amazing creations.

The Jan Leslie has a great label and stamp.

I didn't even to stop to think about mold. Please explain the toothbrush cleaning process. You have peeked my interest. I would also love your thoughts on storing the hats. I have a card board wig box that they are currently in. I have have heard that plastic can cause moisture, and hence I am sure a culprit for mold. I am glad you mentioned Schiaparelli. I tend to think costume jewelry instead of hats. But I just ran across a pink Schiaparelli hat box last week. Bright fuschia pink with Schaiparelli across the front. I was excited, but sadly it had water or parfume damage on the top of it. I am hoping to collect more hat boxes, but wanted your opinion on using them for storage.

I will save the Leslie hat to post alone. Not sure what I will do with the 30s hat, I will definitely take more photos. I will sit on the others and see what my client wants to do. When you get a chance check out my next post. Hopefully, I will do it this weekend. I want to post the black and gold 2 peice dress and top that was worn with the Leslie hat by its org owner. Thanks again for your time!!!:adore:
